The crossing is not a leap; it is a sequence of decisions.

Stage 1 — competent hobbyist. Entry certificate plus personal projects; your pieces pass the squint test. The ladders (fashion, metal, design) get you here.

Stage 2 — specialisation. Pick a lane (the career map); take the intermediate certificates; start a bench journal.

Stage 3 — the business layer. Pricing, photography, channels — the entrepreneurship course plus photography. First sales at markets and as gifts: paid practice.

Stage 4 — credential and voice. Diploma completion; a collection with a point of view; teaching or trade connections.

Where hobbyists stall — no assessed standards, no business layer, no specialisation. The fixes are all in the published reviews, in students' own words.
